For the BeltLine to be truly transformative it should have transformative residential design as part of the metanarrative. More to the point, BeltLandia could sure use some fresh architectural statements. Abode Architect-Builder of Reynoldstown is bringing just that on seemingly every available lot left in the neighborhood. I describe their work as Scandinavian farmhouse mashup, with sprinkles of modern, gothic, folk, and victorian. “Modern Farmhouse” is the shorthand for this blend of the old and the new. It’s the perfect vernacular bridge for a location on the National Register of Historic Places that has seen a lot of moderns built in the past few years.
Public acceptance of the Reynoldstown modern farmhouses is undeniable with most of the houses pre-selling before they’re even listed. This could be a good trend for other BeltLine neighborhoods where infill opportunities among the historic stock abound.
Abode’s latest offerings are collectively called Rtown Lane, a pocket neighborhood of sorts that sits just a block from the next phase of the BeltLine Eastside Trail at Kirkwood and Flat Shoals. All the homes celebrate outdoor living and connection with neighbors by emulating the deep porches so prevalent in the historic homes. Buyers can choose from modern, modern farmhouse, or mid century interior finish packages.
The cluster development raises the bar on sustainability with significant energy and water conservation features sure to save owners on their water and electric bills. The location also allows for a more car-light lifestyle with access to Inman Park/Reynoldstown MARTA Station, multi-use trails (coming soon!), and an increasing walkability strollability that comes with the resurgence of the BeltLine corridor.
