When you got hats -- which we do -- you need some place to hang ‘em, right? So, this hat rack. It’s a special hand-made hat rack, though, crafted with authentic BeltLandian mojo and bonafide BeltLine artifacts: The hat pegs are made from railroad spikes harvested from the BeltLine corridor and fabricated by Marty Martin’s team over at Fred Martin Welding Co. They’re a family-owned, O4W-based business since 1938 and they’ll weld anything but a broken heart and the crack of dawn. The … [Read more...]
Shopping on the BeltLine
By now, most folks would agree that shopping small and local is the preferable thing to do. Our goal here at BeltLandia is to help your bucks stay in the loop, locally. This section will promote the best products, services, deals, discounts -- and the businesses that deliver them -- to be found along the BeltLine.
Krog Street Market and Ponce City Market have dramatically expanded the roster of what is already a robust offering of businesses, restaurants and shops.
The Atlanta BeltLine Partnership has introduced the Atlanta BeltLine Discount Card which rewards BeltLandians for their local purchases. And we plan to offer those who put their money on the Line exclusive specials, discounts and promotions, so be sure to sign up for BeltLandia Free Updates.
Farmers’ Market Fridays: Goat and Roasting Boxes
This past Saturday, I took another trip to The Green Market at Piedmont Park and the weather had definitely improved since my last visit! I arrived about an hour after they opened and it was rife with patrons and their puppies, all happily perusing the booths along with me. I hadn't seen it so packed quite yet, so it was nice to see everyone walking around to support their local vendors. I trekked down to the very edge of the market to visit the Southern Berkshire Farm booth. On my previous … [Read more...]
Farmers’ Market Fridays: Kombucha and Kale
This past Saturday I went to check out the Green Market at Piedmont Park. As I mentioned last week, March 18th kicked off their 2017 season and I was itching to see what other vendors had in store. Or booth, rather! As I headed to what seemed like the front of the market, I bumped into my friend Wes, who was selling Golda Kombucha. Golda is Georgia's first kombucha tea company and is locally brewed. The two flavors they had that day were lavender lemonade and blackberry mint. I sampled both … [Read more...]
Farmers’ Market Fridays: Pork Chops and Kholrabi
One of my most recent experiences at the Freedom Farmers' Market is a testament to getting there as early as possible. I had a few things to do that morning and I finally left the house by 11:30. I had only one hour left to look through the market. If you decide to go to the farmers' market around closing time, your produce options will be very limited. However, you may encounter a vendor looking to make a deal with you so he can unload some more product quickly. This past Saturday, I came … [Read more...]
Farmers’ Market Fridays: Rise ‘N Shine with Sweet Potatoes
The Freedom Farmers’ Market has often been an enjoyable and overwhelming experience for me. I love leisurely strolling through the booths, eyeing produce and flowers, petting friendly dogs and nibbling on samples of meats and cheeses. However, there comes a time at the market when I have to stop and assess what I came in for, what vegetables do I want to buy. And, of course, if I buy something unconventional, what am I going to do with it besides marvel at it in curiosity? This past Saturday, … [Read more...]
Putting the Market in Ponce City Market
Tuesdays just got more exciting, y’all! May 3rd heralded the opening of the new Ponce City Farmers' Market held under “The Shed” right on the BeltLine. I went a little later in the evening and it had definitely drawn a crowd. I try to do a once-over with all booths at farmers’ markets when I first get there to see what everyone has available and to get more bang for my buck. I usually just bring a fresh Jackson (or Tubman, if you’re from the future) with me and I like to stretch it, but I also … [Read more...]
A sign of better times ahead
Words create worlds. Truth is, there was a time when train tracks like the Atlanta BeltLine divided communities, mostly along socioeconomic lines. “Where you’re always on the right side of the tracks” acknowledges that past while simultaneously casting a vision for a more inclusive future. Because words create worlds. The Atlanta BeltLine railroad re-invented as a common meeting ground for all of us is part of the awesome sauce that makes the surrounding neighborhoods -- BeltLandia -- … [Read more...]
Find Our BeltLine Stash and Net Some Cash
We’re going to start giving away money. So we hid a twenty dollar bill today. Perhaps we should explain: 1. We are unabashed Ambassadors of the BeltLine Lifestyle. It’s because we are grateful to claim as our neighborhood a band of emerging infraculture that is arguably the best thing to happen to Atlanta in a long while. Part of our mission at BeltLandia is to promote buying local from the best businesses, restaurants, shopping, and services in the corridor. 2. Our work is helping home … [Read more...]
Ponce City Market Inches Toward Big Reveal
By now, the re-purposing of the "Old Sears Building"/"City Hall East" as Ponce City Market is practically synonymous with the BeltLine itself. Sitting about halfway along the East Side Trail at Ponce de Leon Ave., the largest building redevelopment in the city promises to be something of a dream come true: retail and restaurants, a food market, office space, residential units and plenty of room to park your bike. So when do we get to see it?? As with most development opening dates, Ponce City … [Read more...]
