While Beltlandia is certainly attracting a healthy share of the classic hipster population to it’s environs, I refer in this post to those who qualify for Atlanta BeltLine’s new Housing Initiative Program [HIP].
Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta (FHLBank Atlanta) and Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. (ABI) today announced the reopening of HIP with a new round of grant goodness. HIP has up to $3 million in financial assistance for the purchase of new homes or the rehabilitation of existing homes along the Atlanta BeltLine corridor.
HIP is Atlanta BeltLine’s newest effort to fulfill the goal of providing 5,600 units of affordable or workforce housing. The program gives those earning less than 80% of the Area Median Income an opportunity to enjoy life along the Line in two fundamental ways:
- Qualified Buyers can get up to 20% of the purchase price of a home in downpayment assistance with a cap of $45,000.
- Those who already own homes in need of repair can snag up to $25,000 in renovation funding.
If you can scrape together at least $1,000 toward the purchase or upgrade and plan to call the home your primary residence, then you could be in business. Interested homebuyers and homeowners can begin the process at www.AtlantaBeltLineHomes.com.
Once you get your status as a bonafide HIPster you can search for houses with the search widget below. I’ve filtered the search to homes listed on FMLS as “near the BeltLine” with a maximum purchase price of $200K, although the maximum purchase price will vary based on your personal prequalification. The target area for HIP-eligible homes is roughly ½ mile to either side of the corridor. This search may not be completely inclusive of every qualifying property, and no guarantees that properties on this search will vet out, but it gives you a starting point.
And you can see there are still a number of properties in BeltLandia that can be had for $200K or less.
Preference last year was shown to properties located along the southwest and westside neighborhoods of the BeltLine, an area where I have had the opportunity to assist a number of buyers.
So when you’re ready to go west and stake your claim, I’m here for you.
