A 2008 report by the National Association of Homebuilders touted greenways and trails as the number one amenity that people look for when picking a new neighborhood. Highland Park sales certainly seem to substantiate that claim.
One third of the planned 66 townhomes have sold or are pending so far this year for John Wieland Homes. The builder can’t seem to build them fast enough. And at mid-300 to high-600 thousand dollars a pop.
The development sits at the juncture of Inman Park and Old Fourth Ward, across the trail from Inman Park Village. Highland Park homeowners have direct access to the Eastside Trail which also links to the Freedom Parkway trail system at this location.
So prized is the site’s proximity to the BeltLine, the homes are being built facing the trail. Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. predicts this will be standard practice for positioning new construction along the amenity-rich linear park and future transit line. And existing buildings and commercial spaces which historically presented their backside to the corridor when it was a freight line will eventually have secondary storefronts and facades to welcome trail and transit users.
Owners of traditionally-styled Highland Park homes have easy access by foot or bicycle to some of the best parks, shopping, and dining that Atlanta has to offer like the Historic Fourth Ward Park and Ponce City Market, scheduled to open in 2014.
