Jumpstart Ryan Gravel’s Generator

“What is innovative housing?” This was asked to a room full of folks at a seminar I attended a couple months back. It was a valid question given that we were there for what was billed as an Innovative Housing Summit. The funny thing was the event organizer and asker-of-the-question confessed that the same query had stumped him during a public radio interview promoting the event. A theater full of housing experts and presenters seemed to have their own difficulty articulating answers -- … [Read more...]

Farmers’ Market Fridays: Kombucha and Kale

This past Saturday I went to check out the Green Market at Piedmont Park. As I mentioned last week, March 18th kicked off their 2017 season and I was itching to see what other vendors had in store. Or booth, rather! As I headed to what seemed like the front of the market, I bumped into my friend Wes, who was selling Golda Kombucha. Golda is Georgia's first kombucha tea company and is locally brewed. The two flavors they had that day were lavender lemonade and blackberry mint. I sampled both … [Read more...]

BeltLandia Weekender: September 23rd – 25th, 2016

Happy Fall, y'all! Tis the season for fall festivals, flannel, pumpkin spice and everything nice. While the cooler weather is being shy down south, we still have the chance to bask in the last few summer sunsets at a  reasonable hour. Unfortunately, the event list this weekend seems to be lacking in size, but do not doubt its grandeur in quality. If you ask me, all you really need from a weekend is a Beltline Wine Stroll during the first weekend of autumn.  Cheers, my … [Read more...]

BeltLandia Weekender: August 26th – 28th, 2016

Happy Friday and Happy DOG DAY! As if the day couldn't get any better, it just so happens to be dedicated to celebrating canines. If you have a furry friend of your own, you should make your way over to Historic Fourth Ward Park for an event with a live DJ. You will even be tempted to find a playmate for Fido during the pet adoption. After all, there's only one thing better than having a dog, and that's having two dogs! If this weekend's Pokemon Go Scavenger Hunt is your kind of thing, don't … [Read more...]

BeltLandia Weekender: August 5th – 7th, 2016

Happy Friday, my friends! The good news is that we survived the week. The better news is that we survived back to school traffic. The best news is that the Olympic Opening Ceremonies start tonight! The hardest thing you will have to do this weekend is determine which BeltLandia events you can fit in while balancing a solid Olympic viewing schedule. Enjoy! Friday, August 5th  BB&T Atlanta Open Tennis Tournament @ Atlantic Station  11th Annual Atlanta … [Read more...]

BeltLandia Weekender: July 29th – 31st, 2016

As this week ends and the next begins, we will start to see something we haven't seen all summer. I'm sorry folks, the yellow school buses have returned. It might be blazing hot outside but summer break is officially over for schools down south. We must return to embracing the longer commutes and waiting for the last kid to get off the bus.  We can do this... with a lot of coffee and a whole lot of patience.  That being said, please take this weekend to soak up the pre back to … [Read more...]

BeltLandia Weekender: July 15th – 17th, 2016

Just when you thought Atlanta traffic couldn’t get any worse, AmericasMart in downtown hosts a home furnishings event. The work week might be over, but the event is not. It looks like we will suffer through more gridlocked interstates until Tuesday. Hang in there my friends. This might just be the excuse you need to test drive Atlanta's new bike share program. Grab a Relay ride and take the BeltLine to work! Enough about traffic… If you’re a concert junkie, this weekend was definitely … [Read more...]

BeltLandia Weekender, May 27th – 29th

Friday at last, Friday at last – Thank goodness it is Friday at last! In case you forgot, this is a very special Friday as it kicks off Memorial Day weekend. If I might lend a suggestion this week, I have picked out my favorite ITP soirees: Friday, start your weekend with the Decatur Arts Festival. Saturday, sleep in (you've earned this). Have a smooth, easy start to your day with the Atlanta Jazz Festival (check this out) followed by Brew at the Zoo. Sunday, SLEEP IN (I promise, you're … [Read more...]

BeltLandia Weekender, May 13th – 15th

Howdy there and happy *almost* Friday! We’re hoping you won’t come down with a case of paraskevidekatriaphobia. Ya know, the fear of Friday the 13th. Instead of observing this anti-holiday, we suggest taking a page from our book by celebrating International Hummus Day. For the love of pita bread, just say no to paraskevidekatriaphobia. This weekend’s activities are significantly lighter than last; however, you can never go wrong with a stroll around the BeltLine followed by mid-afternoon … [Read more...]

Re-Learning To Ride A Bike On The BeltLine

We're all jumping some sort of hurdle in our lives. Juggling jobs, families, running a business, maintaining relationships, creating new ones; we're all working around some sort of challenge. Those challenges can be present in our every day normal activities, or they can be more like the one I'm writing about today: in the back of your mind, and slowly nagging you to death. A few years after 1999 I was tooling around my college campus on my bike, zipping through throngs of students to get to … [Read more...]
