A Trio of Trees Atlanta Projects That Boost The BeltLine

If you’ve ever walked on the BeltLIne, you’ve probably noticed the tremendous amount of green space incorporated into every mile of the path. What you may not know is that the BeltLine - in its entirety - is a world-class arboretum created in partnership with the non-profit Trees Atlanta. An arboretum is an outdoor park specifically featuring trees. Trees Atlanta is committed to not only maintaining the BeltLine’s tree biodiversity but to improve it through various initiatives throughout the … [Read more...]

New Townhomes Coming to Westview

Up to 35 new townhomes proposed for the area within the yellow border The Westside of the Beltline made some news this past week when developers requested a zoning change at the site of the former Cornerstone Holiness Church site on Langhorn. Only one block from the West end of the Beltline, this potential new development could pave the way for further zoning changes in the area, dramatically changing the streetscape to a density that would bring a jolt of energy to the Historic Westside … [Read more...]

Bearings Bike Works: A Community-Focused Bike Shop

In the … [Read more...]

There’s gold in them thar hoods!

I just took a peek at the latest statistics for a few neighborhoods around the BeltLine Westside Trail -- namely Adair Park, West End, West View, and Capitol View. And it’s going to get more intense as the completion of the BeltLine Westside Trail approaches. But at this stage I still talk to people in the market … [Read more...]

Banner Year for Southwest Atlanta

This may be one of the best years ever for Southwest Atlanta. In June, Atlanta Beltline, Inc. (ABI) announced they have completed land acquisition for the Westside Trail. This was the final step in securing $18 million in federal grants for the $43 million section of the beltline. This 3-mile trail will run from University Avenue in Adair Park north to Lena Street at Washington Park. In July, WonderRoot, an Atlanta-based non-profit arts and service organization, oversaw the unveiling … [Read more...]

New Horizons: Adair Park and the Westside Trail

Let me just say from the outset that I’m a park guy. I devote a lot of energy to preserving old and establishing new greenspace in the urban landscape. The BeltLine is a linear park, so you'll understand my affinity. When I moved to the Old Fourth Ward in 2004, the BeltLine was a vision, but the reality was a corridor covered in kudzu – wrong kind of greenspace. Parts of the neighborhood had begun to show some life, but from where I lived a walk to Cabbagetown was the closest beer. Edgewood … [Read more...]
